Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP)

The program allows senior U.S. scholars and professionals for two to six weeks to undertake collaborative projects with their counterparts at higher education institutions in Pakistan. Projects must be approved by USEFP; the process is often competitive. The goals of the program include developing linkages between U.S. and Pakistani academic institutions. Non-U.S. post-secondary academic institutions and institutions which do not grant post-secondary degrees but do provide an educational focus to their programming are eligible to host a U.S. scholar or profession although the Fulbright Specialists Program. Non-academic hosts may include libraries, museums, and hospitals as well as Ministries of Education.

Eligible Academic Fields

Agriculture, American (U.S.) Studies (The following specializations with a specific U.S. focus are eligible: art, art history, dance, history, literature, music, popular culture, religion, theater and women's studies), Anthropology, Applied Linguistics / TEFL, Archaeology, Business Administration, Communications and Journalism, Economics, Education, Environmental Science, Information Technology, Law, Library Science, Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, Public/Global Health, Social Work, Sociology, Urban Planning.

Fulbright Specialists project requests will also be accepted in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) teaching or administration fields. These fields will include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education.

  • What is Fulbright Specialists Program?

    Fulbright Specialists Program is a short-term grant for the U.S. faculty and professionals in a select number of fields for a period of two to three weeks to undertake collaborative projects with the institutions of higher education in Pakistan.

  • The Fulbright Specialist Program (FSP) promotes linkages between U.S. academics and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas.

  • FSP is not a research grant. Fulbright Specialists are expected to present lectures to graduate students and faculty, helping institutions of higher education with the curriculum development and do workshops and seminars.

  • To apply for the program the scholars and professionals need to get themselves on the roster of the U.S. scholars maintained by the World Learning and then go through the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP)/Fulbright Commission of Pakistan by writing to Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto at zulfiqar@usefp.org

  • Qualified applicants can apply throughout the calendar year.

  • International travel costs and a stipend are funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. USEFP covers the in-country expenses of the scholars and professionals including lodging, transportation and meals.
