WELCOME TO USEFP
I am honored to take the reins of the United States Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) following the highly successful, two-decade tenure of Executive Director Rita Akhtar Bruun. Rita leaves an incredible legacy of robust programming, highly dedicated professional staff, and an extensive network of active alumni. We are grateful for her long service to educational and cultural exchanges that benefit both Pakistan and the United States.
USEFP is a binational commission guided by a Board of Directors composed of an equal number of Pakistani and American citizens. Its core mission is to promote mutual understanding among the people of our two nations through the educational programs we offer, like Fulbright, Humphrey, Foreign Language Teaching awards, and others. I am thrilled to be a part of this work.
As a Fulbright alumnus myself, and before that, an undergraduate student who studied in Nepal, education abroad changed everything. It rearranged my priorities and aspirations, pushed me to appreciate and learn from cultural differences, and made me appreciate far more deeply the rights, freedoms, and obligations that come with being an American.
I conducted ethnographic research as an anthropologist on cross-cultural encounters, tourism, and religious identity, and I loved teaching undergraduates. Now, I’m an administrator who supports and promotes opportunities for others to go abroad and return home enriched! Whether in the “field”, the classroom, or the office, the constant for me has been a passion in learning from others and encouraging the kind of self-growth among students, colleagues, and grantees that benefits our communities.
Take a little time to explore USEFP’s website and learn about the opportunities we administer and the ways we might advance your own cultural and educational journeys. We are very proud of the work we do and that our programs are merit-based and transparent.
